SKIP AD were formed in 2014, after LEO ELSO (Guitar, keys, lead vocals) and manager ANDREW LYNFORD worked on a theatre musical project for Iris Theatre Company, London. Leo is a graduate of the
MTA and also works in acting, recently having played Tom Springfield in Dusty The Musical at the Charing Cross Theatre. Leo, originally from Paris, had had some success as a singer and songwriter in
France prior to coming to London.
Leo shared Andrew’s idea and vision of forming a young band (with a hint of ‘boyband’ looks and energy) but who could play their own instruments and write their own songs. ASHTON CHARGE who had trained with Leo and a great saxophone player joined immediately and then Andrew recruited GREG SHEFFIELD, an exceptional bass player who has played in shows and bands all over the world, including stints in residency at the famous Ronnie Scotts. Greg’s passion for groove and jazz fitted perfectly with the late 70’s/early 80’s Roxy Music/Bowie feel that Andrew and Leo were aiming to achieve. Greg is also an amazing drummer. And brilliantly, all three of them sing, although the main vocal is from Leo.
SKIP AD, named so they could get a free plug overtime someone used YouTube or online viewing, began working in rehearsal studios on songs penned by renowned writer/producers such as Andy Murray and Pete Kirtley (Blazing Squad, Hear’Say, etc) and Mark Read, original member of the band A1, also a songwriter for Universal, who has written songs for Charlotte Church and Boyzone among others.
CHARLIE DE GRAFT JOHNSON, a dance music producer produced some of the demos along side technician DAVE PEMBERTON. Between them they have worked with many big act names, including mixing for Mary J Blige and The Prodigy.
Skip Ad aim to reignite the feel of rock/pop music in the vain of Bowie, Queen and Roxy Music, but also explore funk and heavier rock in their repertoire.
James Letta is a 19 year old R&B/Funk singer/songwriter from Bucks. His debut single “Right”, a dark and bitter song about an ex girlfriend, was released in October 2015, along with a music video on YouTube, and next single “This Is the Night”, a much more up-tempo funk track, will be released in 2016, with an album to follow! James’ sound is rooted in classic R&B, funk and soul, taking inspiration from Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, James Brown and Prince, but also owes some recognition to more modern R&B artists like Justin Timberlake, Jamiroquai, and R Kelly. Tracks such as “Tropical” and “When We Get Alone”, take what James loves most about classic R&B, and updates them with what is more modern in production sound. James also produces music, co-producing and arranging the entirety of his album, and also produced a cover of Britney Spears’ “Toxic”, for singer Ellie Valentine. Music has always been an integral part of James’ life, with him playing the Violin and Piano from the age of 6. James then got his Diploma in Piano performance at 17. He is currently studying for a music degree at The University of Nottingham, and songwrites in his spare time.
ESO’s album has ambition written all over it, featuring their friend Mike from DevilDriver and produced by rock legend Matt Hyde (Fightstar, Newton Faulkner), “We Are Watching You” is the lead single from a new album that blends absolute passion, huge guitars and keyboards that push modern boundaries.
“We Are Watching You” is already receiving heavy rotation on UK radio including XFM, Kerrang! Radio and Total Rock, with the video having been playlisted on Scuzz TV and K! TV.
Singer Tobias say; “In this song when I say ‘There’s Nothing Left To Lose’ I guess I’m really talking about the way I feel about us right now… We’ve put so much into this record and this single
sets the mood for everything we are pushing for”
“British Rock is really making a comeback at the moment and I think the world of rock is long overdue a shake-up, with this record we are using advances in digital music and the raw emotion and energy of guitar music to create something new.”
ESO comes from the ashes of esOterica, who toured with Marilyn Manson & HIM, graced the airwaves of BBC Radio 1, Radio 2, XFM and Planet Rock and built up an army of dedicated followers who turned out in force when they headlined Shepherds Bush Empire for their last album.
Now they’re back with a new name; ESO, a new sound and a new album produced by legendary rock producer Matt Hyde. With new songs that wouldn’t be out of place alongside Marilyn Manson or Muse and having sold out their first headline show this year, ESO have been dubbed “ones to watch” for 2012 with good reason…
Having already supported Marilyn Manson on two huge European tours, ESO will be touring near you soon…
